Irish, William Arthur

IRISH, William Arthur (1872-1941), architect and contractor of Winnipeg, Man. who designed and built several substantial warehouse blocks in Alberta and Saskatchewan for the A. MacDonald Company. Born in Yarker, Ontario on 17 September 1872, he arrived in Manitoba after 1890 and became connected to the building and construction industry in Carberry, Man. and Virden, Man. before moving to Winnipeg to start his own company called W.A. Irish & Co. He remained active there until after 1930, and later died in Winnipeg on 1 November 1941 (obituary and port., Winnipeg Tribune, 3 Nov. 1941, 5).
