GORMAN, David (1885-1941) was active in Manitoba and Saskatchewan where he served as chief assistant to William A. Elliott, at first in the busy Brandon office from 1905 to January 1909. When Elliot opened a new branch office in Saskatoon, Sask., he appointed Gorman to take charge of the new office while Elliot remained in Brandon (Saskatoon Daily Phoenix, 17 Feb. 1909, 2). Gorman was born in Belfast, Ireland on 25 September 1885 and was educated and trained in that country. He emigrated to Canada in 1905 and continued to work in Saskatchewan until 1913, but he moved to Detroit, Mich. in early 1914 and became a staff architect with the Detroit Street Railway Co. and held that post until after 1930. Gorman died in Detroit on 28 December 1941 (death notice Detroit Free Press, 30 Dec. 1941, 19; obit. Michigan Society of Architects Bulletin, xvi, Feb. 1942, 3).
