Grenfell, Joseph Henry

GRENFELL, Joseph Henry (1872-1941), of Regina, Sask. was an early member of the Saskatchewan Association of Architects and he joined the association on 22 February 1912 while working as a designer and draftsman in the provincial Dept. of Public Works. His application was endorsed by Walter J. Coltman, and it is possible that he was also employed by Coltman after 1907. Born in Bruce Mines, Ont. on 18 November 1872, he articled with the prominent London, Ont. architect John M. Moore from 1890 to 1894, but moved to western Canada after 1900. He returned to Ontario after 1918 and later opened his own office in Woodstock, Ont. where he practised from 1922 to 1925. His membership in the Ontario Assoc. of Architects lapsed in June 1932, and he later died in Toronto on 18 June 1941 (inf. Saskatchewan Assoc. of Architects; inf. Ontario Assoc. of Architects)
