Venne, Adrien

VENNE, Adrien (1893-1977), another member of Venne family of architects who lived and worked in Montreal, a family dynasty which spanned three generations. His father was Joseph Venne (1858-1925), and his younger brother was Emile Venne (1896-1975). Born in Montreal on 7 August 1893, Adrien V. attended the Ecole Polytechnique in that city and graduated in 1921. He trained in his father's office from June 1920 to January 1923, assisting him with preparation of drawings for the reconstruction of Sacre Coeur de Jesus Roman Catholic Church in Montreal in 1922-23, and with plans for St. Gabriel Roman Catholic Novitiate at St. Bruno, Quebec. Adrien then joined the P.Q.A.A. as a registered architect in 1923. After the death of his father in May 1925, both he and his brother Emile formed the new firm of Venne & Venne, Architects, and they worked together until 1931, but no references to their work during this period have been found. Adrien Venne died in Montreal in 1977 (biog. in ARQ – La Revue d;Architecture [Montreal], No. 116, August 2001, 18; inf. Province of Quebec Assoc. of Architects, Montreal).
