Harris, John

HARRIS, John (fl. 1872-77) was active in Richmond Hill, Ont. as an architect and builder. In 1873 he was credited with the design of the new High School, RICHMOND HILL, ONT., 1873 (inf. LACAC Committee, Richmond Hill). In late 1875 he was described as “ the architect” for the new three storey brick hotel for John Palmer, Yonge Street, RICHMOND HILL, ONT. (York Herald [Richmond Hill], 18 Dec. 1875, 2). Palmer was a well-known hotel keeper in that village, and his new hotel was scheduled for construction in the spring of 1876. John Harris may have been related to Thomas Harris, an architect and builder recorded in Richmond Hill from 1842 to c. 1863.
