Gale, Walter N.

GALE, Walter N. (1867-c. 1921), an architect who was active in Saskatoon, Sask. in 1907, and was later recorded as an architect in Humboldt, Sask. in 1911, and in Nanaimo, B.C. in 1921. Born in England in April 1867, he was educated and trained there, and emigrated to Canada in 1901. He arrived in Saskatoon before 1907 and early in that year he formed a partnership with Spencer Howland, as Gale & Howland, Architects. Their collaboration ended in less than two months, and was dissolved in late March 1907 (Daily Phoenix [Saskatoon], 23 March 1907, 3). Gale then formed a new partnership with Norman L. Thompson, but it too was quickly terminated within a month in April (Daily Phoenix [Saskatoon], 18 April 1907, 4). In 1911 he was practicing in Humboldt, Sask, but no information has been found on his activity there. He is almost certainly the same “Walter N. Gale, architect” who was recorded in Nanaimo, British Columbia in 1921 (Canada, Census for 1921, British Columbia - Nanaimo).
