Smith & Walker

SMITH & WALKER, architects of Walkerville, Ontario who were active there from late 1912 until 1914. Their office was created by two young architects including Donald Coburn Smith (1892-c. 1940), and Irwin S.F. Walker (1884-1974). Smith was born in Louisville, Kentucky on 19 April 1892 and worked in Cleveland, Ohio before emigrating to Canada in late October 1911. Nearly one year later, he and Walker formed a partnership (Evening Record [Windsor], 29 Oct. 1912, 7). Their collaboration was brief, and by late 1914 Smith had returned to Cleveland to join the well-known firm of Bohnard & Parssons, Architects. By 1940, he was living in Chicago, but appears to have abandoned the profession by that time. Irwin moved from Walkerville to nearby Windsor and by 1915 he had joined in partnership with Angus McPhail (see list of works under McPhail & Walker).
