Peters, Frederick James

PETERS, Frederick James (1884- c. 1930) was active in both Seattle, Washington and in Vancouver, B.C. Born in Glasgow, Scotland on 14 June 1884, he emigrated to the United States, arriving in New York City in June 1907 and then moved west to Seattle where he was recorded as a draftsman in the architectural office of H.L. Stevens & Co. (City of Seattle Directory, 1911, p. 1088). He moved to Vancouver in early 1912 to represent the firm of H.L. Stevens, then joined in a partnership of Stuart, White & Peters, Architects before opening an office there under his own name in July 1912. His commissions included commercial and residential buildings in Vancouver, as well as several large residences in the Shaughnessy Heights neighbourhood of Point Grey.

Peters left Canada in 1914 and returned to Seattle, taking up a new position as a staff architect in 1916 in the busy office of B. Marcus Priteca, a leading designer of theatres in both the United States and Canada. He continued to work as designer and chief assistant to Priteca until 1927 when he was made a full partner in the firm of Priteca & Peters in 1928. He remained active as sole practitioner in 1929-30, but no information has been found on his activity after this date.
