Caron, Cyrille

CARON, Cyrille (1853-1924), active in Winnipeg, Man. from. c. 1880 until 1903, and in Wolseley, Sask. after 1904. In 1900 he was listed as “architect, builder, & valuator” with an office on Main Street in Winnipeg (Lovell’s Manitoba & N.W.T. Directory, 1900-01). He was born in the province of Quebec on 15 September 1853 and moved to Manitoba before 1900. In 1904 he relocated to Wolseley, Saskatchewan and opened an office as architect, and in September of 1904 he “….went to Regina yesterday and secured the architectural work for three large buildings in Regina” (Wolseley News, 8 Sept. 1904).

In December 1904 he opened an office as an architect in Regina (Morning Leader [Regina], 7 Dec. 1904, 10), and he noted that he possessed “..about 28 years of experience” in the field of architecture and construction. In 1905 he obtained a commission for large three storey hotel at FILLMORE, SASK. (C.R., xv, 1 March 1905, 2, t.c.). This is almost certainly the same hotel for G.A. Hennick, at Fillmore, described in detail in the Morning Leader [Regina], 2 August 1905, 9. Caron died on 5 June 1924 at Fort Garry, Man. (Province of Manitoba, Deaths Registration No. 1924 - 024 327).
