Morissette, Jean Albert

MORISSETTE, Jean Albert (1889-1955), active in the province of Quebec, at first in Montreal, and later in Quebec City. He was an architect and partner in the following firms

Morissette was born on 5 January 1889 and he studied architecture at the Ecole Polytechnique in Montreal from 1908 to 1912. One of his classmates at the Ecole was Emmanuel A. Doucet, with whom he was to form an architectural partnership in Montreal in late 1912 (see list of works under Doucet & Morissette). Their collaboration ended with the outbreak of WWI in 1914, and Morissette moved to Quebec City and opened his own office in 1914. In 1923 he was invited by Oscar Beaule to form a new partnership in Quebec City, and they operated a successful practise together for the next thirty years (see list of works under Beaule & Morissette). Their practise ended in 1955 with the death of Morissette in Quebec City on 11 September 1955 (obituary Le Soleil [Quebec City], 12 Sept. 1955, 15; inf. Province of Quebec Association of Architects)
