Livermore, Walter

LIVERMORE, Walter (1849-1928), active in Montreal, Que. where he was recorded as an architect from 1890 until 1905. He was a native of Woodbury, Co. Devon, England, born there on 3 February 1849 and later emigrated to Canada in 1868. He learned the building trades in Montreal with the large firm of Simpson & Peel, Builders, but by 1890 he began to style himself as an architect. His practise was devoted to small residential commissions, but he is best know for his design of the George Moore Memorial Home located at Longue Pointe in the east end of Montreal. An extensive description of his design for this institutional home for the Aged and Infirm was published in The Gazette [Montreal], 30 March 1894, 5. After 1905 Livermore became a building construction superintendent, and no references to his designs after this date have been found. He died in Montreal on 23 December 1928 and was buried at Mount Royal Cemetery (obit. Gazette [Montreal], 24 Dec. 1928, 4).
