Laliberte, Jacques Eugene

LALIBERTE, Jacques Eugene (1896-1962), active in Montreal, Que. where he was in partnership with Anastase Gravel from 1922 to May 1929 (see list of works under Gravel & Laliberte). Born in Montreal on 3 April 1896, it is unclear where he was educated, or who he trained under, but by 1922 he was recorded as a partner with the Verdun architect Anastase Gravel. They collaborated on the design of several churches and institutional buildings, but by May of 1929 they had dissolved their partnership (R.A.I.C. Journal, vi, June 1929, xxxii, news item). The following year, he had formed a new partnership with Simeon Brais in Montreal. Laliberte joined the Province of Quebec Assoc. of Architects before 1931, but by 1953 he had taken up a new post as Superintendent, Inspector of Buildings, for the City of Montreal. He later died in Montreal on 16 October 1962 (inf. P.Q.A.A., Montreal).
