Robertson, John C.

ROBERTSON, John C. (1843- c. 1901), active in Rossland and in Greenwood City in the B.C. Interior from 1897 until 1901. Born in England on 16 February 1843, he arrived in Canada in 1897 at the age of 53 years, and may have been lured to southern British Columbia by the mining boom which was in progress at the turn of the century. His name first appears in Rossland as an architect (British Columbia Directory, 1897, 847; B.C., Sessional Papers, 1899, Voter’s Lists, 491). By early 1899 he had moved to nearby Greenwood City, and was successful in receiving several commissions for institutional, ecclesiastical, commercial and residential buildings. The British Columbia Directory of 1900-01 lists his name as “architect & builder” in Greenwood, but no information can be found on his activity after 1901.
