Coleman, William Percy

COLEMAN, William Percy (1881-c. 1932) arrived in Regina, Sask. in April 1911 and opened an office an an architect (C.R., xxv, 19 April 1911, 52, professional card). Born in Hamilton, Ont. in 1881, he moved to Des Moines, Iowa after 1900. By 1913 he had joined in a partnership with Arthur M. Lloyd of Regina, as Coleman & Lloyd, Architects. Together they were one of 39 architectural firms from across Canada who submitted an entry in the national competition for the new Winnipeg City Hall (City of Winnipeg Archives, Council Communications, 1913, Box A 169, Item 9741, list of entrants). They were not among the five finalists, and the commission was later awarded to Clemesha & Portnall, also of Regina. Coleman appears to have left Canada in 1915, and in 1920 he was living and working as an architect in Fargo, North Dakota. By 1927 he had moved back to Des Moines, Iowa where he was a draftsman for the firm of Proudfoot, Rawson & Souers, Architects. (inf. Saskatchewan Association of Architects)
