Davie, Hugh Scott

DAVIE, Hugh Scott (1886-1918), of Vancouver, B.C. and partner in the firm of Doctor, Stewart & Davie from 1913 to 1917. Born in Alexandria, Dumbartonshire, Scotland on 27 January 1886, he likely received his education and training in Scotland before emigrating to Canada in April 1911 at the age of 25 years. He settled in Vancouver, B.C. and obtained a position as a draftsman in the office William A. Doctor (Vancouver City Directory, 1912, 698). The following year, he was invited by Doctor to become a full partner in his new architectural office (see list of works under Doctor, Stewart & Davie). Their firm was active until 1917 when Davie enlisted with the 44th Battalion of the Canadian Army and went overseas. He was killed in action in France on 17 February 1918 (obit.
