Harris, Dennis Reginald

HARRIS, Dennis Reginald (1851-1932) of Victoria, B.C. was trained as a civil engineer and held the position of City Surveyor there in 1882. In 1884 he formed a partnership with George Hargreaves, an architect and surveyor, and practised with him for at least two years. It is likely that many of the designs by the firm are from the hand of Hargreaves. By 1886 their services were devoted exclusively to that of engineering and land surveying. Harris became a city alderman in Victoria in 1889. He died in Victoria on 3 November 1932 (death notice Victoria Daily Times, 5 Nov. 1932, 11; D. Luxton, Building the West: The Early Architects of British Columbia, 2003, 92-3, 503).
