Dumais, Charles

DUMAIS, Charles (1887-1954) of Quebec City, P.Q. opened an office in that city under his own name in 1914 and was active there for over forty years. Born in St. Denis de Kamouraska on 5 March 1887, he was educated and trained in Quebec City and joined the Province of Quebec Association of Architects in 1914. Much of his practise was devoted to private residences in the Quebec City area, and Couillard Residence located at 10 Grande Allee West is a typical example (built 1930), with a wide curved verandah and projecting bay window on the principal façade. Only one institutional work by Dumais has been located, that of the Town Hall in Vanier, Quebec City (1927). Dumais died in Quebec City on 26 Feb. 1954 (obit. L’Action Catholique [Quebec City], 26 Feb. 1954, 9; obit. Le Soleil [Quebec City], 26 Feb. 1954, 13; inf. Province of Quebec Assoc. of Architects, Montreal).
