Morin, Jacques Maurice

MORIN, Jacques Maurice (1911- 2009), born at St. Hyacinthe, Que. on 12 November 1911, and active in Montreal where he was in partnership with Marc Cinq-Mars. He studied architecture at McGill University, and continued his studies at Columbia University in New York City. While there, he worked for Skidmore & Owings (later Skidmore, Owings & Merrill), then returned to Montreal to assist in the office of J.J. Perrault. In 1941 he joined the Canadian Air Force and after the end of WWII he opened an office in Montreal in 1945, at first under his own name, and then in the partnership of Morin & Cinq-Mars. Their office collaborated with Patterson, Heughan & Townsend on the design of the proposed Montreal Civic Centre, University Street at Lagauchetiere Street, MONTREAL, 1949, but this proposal was not built (Montreal Daily Star, 24 March 1949, 3, illus. & descrip.). He remained active until after 1965 (biog. and list of works in Biographies Canadiennes Francaises, xviii, 1960, 447, with port.). Morin died in the Town of Mont Royal, Montreal on 20 March 2009 at the age of 97 years.
