Murray, George W.

MURRAY, George W. (fl. 1889-90) was active in Keewatin, Ont.[now part of Kenora] and he was one of the first professional architects to work in Northern Ontario. The Lake of the Woods Museum in Kenora holds several documents from “G.W. Murray, Architect, Builder & Appraiser” that are related to his design for a large residence for A. Carmichael at RAT PORTAGE, ONT (now Kenora), dating from July and August 1889 (inf. Reg Reeve, Kenora). In addition, he is noted as "the architect and builder" of the Presbyterian Church, KEEWATIN, ONT (Manitoba Weekly Free Press, 12 Sept. 1889, 6, descrip.), and it is likely that he was responsible for the design and construction of other buildings in the Kenora district during the last decade of the 19th C.
