Stewart, Clayton Lloyd

STEWART, Clayton Lloyd (1888-1959) is likely the same “C.L. Stewart, Architect” who is first recorded in Toronto in 1909, working from an office in The Stair Building at 12 Bay Street (City of Toronto Directory, 1909, 1058, classified list, 1180). Born in Mount Forest, Ont. on 29 November 1888, he likely received his education and training in Toronto. In 1910 he was living and working in Regina, Saskatchewan in partnership with W.W. Hilton, as Hilton & Stewart, Architects (Regina City Directory, 1910, 334). He appears to have returned to Toronto in 1911 where he completed two commissions, but his name is absent from the 1913 City Directory for Toronto, and no information on his architectural activity has been found after this date. He died in Toronto in 1959 and was buried at Pine Hills Cemetery in Scarborough.
