Balmain, John Walker

BALMAIN, John Walker (1838-1910), active in Vancouver, B.C. where he is listed variously as “architect & civil engineer”, and as “architect” (Henderson’s British Columbia Gazetteer & Directory, 1904, 640; Henderson’s Vancouver City Directory, 1905, 170). By 1906 he had been appointed as City Engineer in North Vancouver. Born in Scotland, he was married in Bombay, India in November 1869 and came to Canada before 1900. He later suffered a serious illness in June 1910 (Vancouver Daily World, 20 June 1910, 11) and died there on 23 June 1910.
