Scott, Arthur Hillman

SCOTT, Arthur Hillman (1852-1931) was the son of the prominent Detroit, Mich. architect William Scott. Born in England on 30 May 1852, he was brought to Essex County, Ontario in 1853 by his family, and he was likely trained in the profession by his father. When his father and older brother John Scott moved to Detroit after 1870, Arthur chose to remain in Canada across the river in Windsor, Ont., acting as the local supervising architect for the firm’s projects in Essex County. After the death of his father in 1889, both John and Arthur formed a new partnership with Louis Kamper; the firm was then renamed John Scott & Co. in 1891, with John heading the Detroit office, and Arthur overseeing the Windsor office (see list of works under John Scott & Co.). Arthur Scott retired after 1925, and died in Windsor, Ont. on 29 July 1931 (obit. Windsor Star, 30 July 1931, 3; obit. Detroit Free Press, 30 July 1931, 8; inf. Shirley B.
