McCONNELL, Robert Stanley (1890-1984), was active in Toronto, Ont. during the period from 1915 to 1917. He was the younger brother of Arthur Wellesley McConnell, and may have been influenced by him in his decision to become an architect. Robert S. was born in Walkerton, Ont. on 31 March 1890 and he moved to Toronto after 1910. His best-known work there was the industrial loft building now known as The Brill Building (1916) which still stands today on Richmond Street West at Duncan Street in Toronto. McConnell died in Toronto on 22 May 1984 (death notice Globe & Mail, 23 May 1984, C 10).
