Forbes, Duncan Fraser

FORBES, Duncan Fraser (1882-1929), born at Inverness, Scotland and active in Toronto where he worked as a draughtsman in the Building Dept. of Toronto Board of Education in 1910-11. In 1912 he was working as an assistant to Charles J. Read in Toronto, but left the city in late 1912 and moved to Welland, Ont. and was briefly in partnership with David J. Corrigall (1883-1973). His best known work there was the design of the Welland High School in 1913. That same year, he was one of 16 architects to submit a design in the competition for the Ward Five Public School in Welland, Ont., but his proposal was passed over in favour of the winning scheme submitted by A.E. Nicholson (Welland Tribune, 11 Dec. 1913, Second Section, 1, list of competitors). Forbes died in Toronto on 20 November 1929.
