Mathieu, Paul Emile

MATHIEU, Paul Emile (1907-1983), active in Quebec City, Que. and a member of the Province of Quebec Assoc. of Architects from 1933 onward. Born on 12 February 1907, he studied architecture at the provincial Ecole des Beaux Arts in Quebec City and graduated in 1933. One major work by Mathieu has been identified, a significant Art Deco design for a recreational and sports complex called The Centre Durocher, Carillon Street at Raoul Jobin Street, QUEBEC CITY, QUE., 1948-49 (L. Noppen et al, Quebec Monumental 1890-1990, 91, illus. & descrip.). Mathieu resigned from the P.Q.A.A. in 1976, and he later died in Quebec City on 7 October 1983. The Archives Nationales du Quebec holds a collection of his drawings and photographs prepared between 1928 and 1979 (ANQ, Quebec City, Mathieu Collection, Fonds P 757)
