Kinney, James Bond

KINNEY, James Bond (1824-1895) of Yarmouth, Nova Scotia was born there on 7 February 1824 and began his career as a shipbuilder at Tusket, N.S. In 1856 he started a lumber supply house with William Haley called Kinney-Haley Co. which fabricated window sashes, doors & blinds for local builders and carpenters. By 1866 the firm had grown and become the Kinney-Haley Manufacturing Co. which offered the services of preparing plans for buildings and undertaking their construction. By the late 1870's Kinney was often being credited as the architect for a variety of residential, commercial and ecclesiastical buildings in towns and villages in Nova Scotia. He was a promoter and builder of the marine railway, he designed and superintended the construction of the woolen mills in Yarmouth, and designed over fifty of Yarmouth's residences. In 1892 or 1893 he moved to Bridgetown, N.S. where his son-in-law resided and died there on 10 March 1895 (obituary in the Yarmouth Times, 12 March 1895, 3; obituary in the Weekly Monitor [Bridgetown], 13 March 1895, 3; biography in J.
