Tremblay, Alfred Henri

TREMBLAY, Alfred Henri (fl. 1927-1964) was active in Quebec City, P.Q. and became a member of the Province of Quebec Assoc. of Architects in 1927. He submitted a number of contemporary designs for houses in the Dominion Housing Act competitions held in 1936 and 1938, including a striking modernist scheme commended by the Jury as “a sophisticated and urbane performance…..it is the most modern of all those selected” (R.A.I.C. COMPETITIONS

DOMINION HOUSING ACT, competition design for a modernist residence, 1936 (R.A.I.C. Journal, xiii, May 1936, 89, 96, illus.; C.H.G., xiii, Aug.-Sept. 1936, 17, illus.). Tremblay submitted two designs, No. 443, and No. 469. The latter received an Honorable Mention from the Jury.

A FRENCH CANADIAN HOME, 1942. The Quebec Ministry of Agriculture and the Quebec Tourist Bureau sponsored a competition among architects in the province of Quebec to prepare designs for a variety of single family houses inspired by traditional architecture in that province. Tremblay was one of three winners with a design for "A Settler's Home" (Gazette [Montreal], 25 Nov. 1942, 13, illus. & descrip.
