Totty, Elliot

TOTTY, Elliot (1890-1960) of Victoria, B.C. was active as an architect there from 1908 until 1925 when his membership in the Architectural Inst. of British Columbia lapsed and was later cancelled. Born in Dawson, Yukon Territories on 19 July 1890, he articled in the office of Jesse Warren in Victoria from 1908 to 1913, and after serving with Canadian Forces during WWI he returned to Victoria and joined the Provincial Dept. of Public Works, working as a draftsman under the supervision of Herbert Whittaker. In 1922, both he and William J. Semeyn collaborated on the design of the parsonage for Grace Lutheran Church, Dowler Place, VICTORIA, B.C., 1922; demol. Totty appears to abandoned the profession in 1925, but returned to architectural activity in 1949 and was reinstated as a member of the A.I.B.C.
