Taylor, John Albert

TAYLOR, John Albert (1883-1951), the nephew of Lewis H. Taylor, was active in Brantford, Ont. Born in the village of Boston, Ontario on 12 October 1883, he moved to nearby Brantford and learned the carpenter trade, and later entered the office of his uncle to work as a draftsman and assistant. He was then invited by his uncle to join him in partnership in 1905 (see list of works under Taylor & Taylor). Their office was remarkably successful in obtaining commissions for commercial, industrial, ecclesiastical and residential commissions in Brantford and in several neighbouring towns including Ingersoll, Woodstock, Hespeler and London. Their partnership was dissolved by mutual consent in 1913 before the outbreak of WWI, and in that same year Taylor joined F.H. Secord & Sons, a local construction company (Brantford Daily Expositor, 12 April 1913, 3). In 1927 he helped to create the Schultz Construction Company, becoming, at first, the general manager, and later serving as company President (biog. Brantford Expositor, 6 April 1922, 27; biog. Brantford Expositor Semi-Centennial Edition, 1927, 107; inf. Robert Hamilton). He occupied this post at the time of death on 6 September 1951 (obituary Brantford Expositor, 7 September 1951, 6)
