Stroud, Allan Bertram

STROUD, Allan Bertram (1885-1918) was active in Toronto, Ont. from 1902 until 1909 when he moved to Vancouver to continue his career. Born in Ontario on 10 May 1885, he was educated in Toronto and opened an office there under his own name in 1906. The following year he formed a partnership with Ackary F. During WWI Stroud became a member of the Royal Naval Canadian Volunteer Reserve, and was serving with the Navy when he died suddenly on 20 September 1918 at the age of 34 years. He was buried at Freetown, Sierra Leone, West Africa (biog. Who’s Who in Western Canada, 1911, 254; biog. in D. Luxton, Building The West: The Early Architects of British Columbia, 2003, 484, 519).
