Stibbard, Robert Franklin

STIBBARD, Robert Franklin (1882-c. 1964), an early architect active in Timmins, Ont. where he designed numerous industrial and residential buildings for large mining companies including Polaris Gold Mines Ltd., for McIntyre Mines Ltd., and for Dome Mines Ltd. Born in Toronto on 14 December 1882 he studied engineering at the University of Toronto and took correspondence courses in architecture from 1907 to 1911. He moved to Detroit, Mich. in 1915 and was employed by several construction companies as a staff architect and engineer. He returned to Toronto in 1929, then moved to Timmins where his name is linked to industrial and commercial buildings. By 1939 he had returned to Toronto and continued to operate a small practise until after 1960. Stibbard resigned from the Ontario Assoc. of Architects in April 1964 (inf. from Ontario Assoc. of Architects).
