Dooley, Vincent Whyld

DOOLEY, Vincent Whyld (1862 - 1909), an architect active in Medicine Hat, Alberta for nearly fifteen years and whose name can be linked to works in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Ontario. Born at Burton-on-Trent, England on 19 August 1862, he arrived in Alberta in 1886 and his name appears as “carpenter” in the 1891 Census of Canada (Census of Canada, NWT, District 199, Sub District B, p. 3, line 19). He may have worked as an architect and as a contractor or builder. He was among the very first professional architects to sustain a career in southern Alberta, and he executed designs for ecclesiastical, institutional and commercial works. No information has been found on his architectural activity after 1903. Dooley died on 21 October 1909 and was buried at Mountain View Cemetery in Lethbridge, Alta.
