Stenhouse, Charles Corner

STENHOUSE, Charles Corner (1883-1956) was active in Oshawa, Ont. where he opened an office in February 1922. Born in Rangoon, Burma on 4 May 1883, he studied architecture and engineering at the Technical College in Glasgow and articled there with John McNeil & Co., an engineering and construction company, from December 1900 to April 1907. He emigrated to Canada after 1910 and settled in Oshawa, Ont., and continued to practise there for more than ten years. He may have closed his office for a brief period during the Depression in 1932, but by 1933 it was announced that he had “re-opened his office in the Royal Bank Building, Oshawa” (Const., xxvi, March-April 1933, 52). Stenhouse died in Oshawa on 18 March 1956 (death notice, Oshawa Times, 19 March 1956; inf. Ontario Association of Architects)
