Edwards, Gordon Ross

EDWARDS, Gordon Ross (1894-1950), son of Robert J. Edwards and partner in the firm of Edwards & Edwards from 1917 until 1927. Born in Toronto on 26 January 1894 he studied architecture at the Univ. of Toronto and graduated in 1916. He trained under his father, and the following year joined him in a partnership ( see list of works under Edwards & Edwards). After the death of his father in November 1927 he continued to work under the joint name of his father’s firm, but few references to his work have been found, including two commissions for Daniel H. Atkinson, a local Forest Hill contractor and builder. Edwards joined the faculty of the School of Architecture at the Univ. of Toronto in 1925 and taught there for twenty five years. He resigned from the Ontario Assoc. of Architects in September 1937 and died in Toronto on 15 June 1950 (obit. Globe & Mail [Toronto], 16 June 1950, 5; inf. Univ. of Toronto Archives, Grier file for Gordon R. Edwards).
