Crook, George R.

CROOK, George R. (1865- c. 1916) was active in the South Shore region of Montreal and maintained an office in the Town of St. Lambert (Lovell's Directory of the Province of Quebec, 1915-16). In 1914 he designed a substantial residence for Joseph H. Rainville, Argyle Avenue, ST. LAMBERT, QUE., 1914-15; demol. c. 1960 (South Shore Press [St. Lambert], 27 May 1915, 4 ff., illus. and descrip.). Rainville was the federal Member of Parliament for the region and spared no expense on this local landmark that featured a two storey high portico (inf. Yves Guillet, St. Lambert).
Crook was born in England on 17 November 1865 and emigrated to Canada in 1887. He settled in the Montreal region, and by 1895 he was listed as an architect in the Town of St. Lambert (Lovell's Montreal Directory, 1895, 1060), and he appears to have been practising the profession on the South Shore for at least twenty years. No information has been found on his activity after 1915.
