Born in Toronto on 12 September 1910 he attended Upper Canada College there, as well as Royal Military College in Kingston, Ont. After graduating from the Dept. of Architecture at the Univ. of Toronto in 1937 he trained under Mackenzie Waters, and then worked in the office of William Rae, and with him collaborated on the design of St. Cuthbert's Anglican Church in the Leaside neighbourhood of Toronto. He was invited by Eric Arthur to join in a new partnership with himself and George H. Piersol, but the firm was disbanded in 1942 due to the outbreak of WWII, with Arthur serving with the merchant navy in the North Atlantic, and Piersol moving to Ottawa. Fleury served as an officer in the Royal Canadian Artillery during WWII, and after returning to Toronto in 1946 he rejoined Arthur in the new firm of Fleury & Arthur, and remained active for the next 30 years as their office grew and took on new partners.
Their major works in Toronto after 1950 include St. Andrew's Church, Victoria Park Avenue at Terraview Blvd., Scarborough (1957), The Benson Women's Athletic Building, University of Toronto, Huron Street at Harbord Street, the South Extension to the Coliseum, Exhibition Park (1961), and Castle Frank High School, Bloor Street East at the Don Valley (1962). One of his later works was the design of "Windover", a country residence in the Albion Hills near Toronto for the renowned Canadian author Robertson Davies (1967-71). Fleury died in Toronto on 1 December 1983 (death notice Globe & Mail [Toronto], 5 Dec. 1983; inf. Ontario Association of Architects; inf. David Fleury, Toronto).
