Lemaistre, Frederick Francis

LEMAISTRE, Frederick Francis (1877 - 1955), a less well-known architect who was active in Winnipeg, Man. and was recorded in partnership for less than a year with Herbert E. Matthews in 1910 (see list of works under Matthews & LeMaistre). Born at Jersey, Channel Islands, Engand on 13 February 1879, he arrived in Winnipeg in 1909 and may have trained with a local Manitoba architect. After the dissolution of the partnership in late 1910 he continued to live and work in Winnipeg. Only one commission can be linked to his name, that of a large three storey apartment block on Colony Street, between Broadway and Portage Avenue, WINNIPEG, MAN., 1929 (C.R., xliii, 6 March 1929, 55). In 1940 he registered with the R.A.I.C. in Ottawa as one of many members available for National Service during WWII, and he noted his "27 years of architectural experience" (inf. Manitoba Assoc. of Architects). Lemaistre died in Winnipeg on 26 October 1955 (death notice Winnipeg Free Press, 28 Oct. 1955, 29, with obituary, 39)
