Lemoine, M. David

LEMOINE, M. David (fl. 1856-58), was active in Hamilton, Ont. In 1856 he was listed as a draughtsman with Albert H. Hills, a prominent local architect there. The following year he was assistant in the office of Hills & Kortum. In September 1857 he formed a partnership with William H. Ellis, and their firm maintained an office on James Street at Market Square (City of Hamilton Directory, 1858, 265). Their partnership was dissolved in June 1858 (Spectator [Hamilton], 14 June 1858, 2) and Lemoine continued to practise under his own name. In July 1858 he advertised seeking a Clerk of Works "to construct a Church and two schoolhouses 40 miles north of Montreal" (Spectator [Hamilton], 29 July 1858, 2, advert.), an indication of a commission he had obtained in Quebec. He may be related to, or the same as, "Mr. Lemoine, architect" active in Montreal in partnership with Casimir Coursolles in 1855.
