Lebon, Joseph Honorius

LEBON, Joseph Honorius (1874-1919), active in Quebec City, Que. as a partner with the successful and prolific architect Georges Emile Tanguay. Born at Ste. Marie de Beauce, Que. on 16 March 1874, he studied at the Academie Commerciale in Quebec City and likely received much of his architectural training in the office of G.E. Tanguay from 1894 onward. Lebon joined the Prov. of Quebec Association of Architects on 14 June 1898, and he continued to work in the Tanguay office until 1912 when he was invited by him to become a full partner (see list of works under Tanguay & Lebon).

Lebon was respected by many of his colleagues in the architectural profession who elected him as President of the Province of Quebec Association of Architects in January 1919 (Gazette [Montreal], 20 Jan. 1919, 7). His promising career was cut short when he died suddenly at Giffard, Que. on 7 April 1919 at the age of 44 years (obit. Le Soleil [Quebec City], 8 April 1919, 14; obit. L'Evenement [Quebec City], 9 April 1919, 5). The Archives Nationale du Quebec on the campus of Laval Univ. in Ste. Foy, Que. holds a number of drawings by Lebon, and by Tanguay & Lebon, within the Raoul Chenevert Collection, ANQ Acc. P372.
