Burrell, John Edward

BURRELL, John Edward. (1882-1943), active in Calgary, Alta. from 1912, at first under his own name, and then in partnership with Reginald E.McDonnell from c. 1914 to 1919. In 1921 he formed a new partnership with James Basevi, but their collaboration ended in late 1922. Burrell was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia on 19 March 1882 and learned the building trades in that province. He moved to western Canada after 1908 and settled in Calgary where he worked as a professional architect from 1913 to 1922. In 1926 he left Canada and moved to California and settled in Long Beach. His name was recorded there in 1927 as "structural engineer", and after 1930 as either a "contractor" or "general contractor". Burrell died in Los Angeles on 28 July 1943.
