Gagnon, Jean Berchmans

GAGNON, Jean Berchmans (1912-1979) was born at Ste. Marie de Beauce, Que. on 3 March 1912 and educated in Quebec City where he graduated from the local Ecole des Beaux-Arts in 1934. He opened an office in his home town in Beauce County in late 1934 (R.A.I.C. Journal, xi, Dec. 1934, 187). In 1936 he moved his office to nearby Thetford Mines, Que. and continued to practise there for the duration of his career. Virtually all of his professional activity was devoted to preparation of plans of churches, convents, schools, and seminary buildings for the Roman Catholic parishes in Beauce County in the Eastern Townships region of Quebec. Berchmans died at Thetford Mines on 9 October 1979 (biog. and list of works in Qui etes-Vous [Montreal], 1946, 85; inf. Prov. of Quebec Assoc. of Architects).
