Gadbois, Joseph Romeo

GADBOIS, Joseph Romeo (1886- c.1949) was active in Montreal, Que. where he was in partnership with Jean Julien Perrault (see list of works under Perrault & Gadbois). Born in St. Simon, Quebec on 17 April 1886, he commenced practise under his own name in Outremont in 1919 where one of his best known works was the transformation a 19th C. landmark, the residence of Stanley Bagg (built in 1817) to serve as a Town Hall for the City of Outremont (Montreal, Les Residences, 1987, 48-51, illus. & descrip). In 1921 he formed a partnership with Jean Julien Perrault, and together they operated a successful practise in Montreal for nearly twenty-five years, specializing in the design of commercial and residential projects (see list of works under Perrault & Gadbois). They collaborated until 1944 or 1945 when their firm was dissolved by mutual agreement. Gadbois himself had joined the P.Q.A.A. in 1931 but resigned from the organization in 1949 (inf.
