Burnham, Daniel H.

BURNHAM, Daniel H. (1868-1931), a minor figure in Toronto who first appears in the City of Toronto Directory as a contractor and carpenter as early as 1889 (Toronto Directory, 1889, 469). He continued to work as a carpenter and builder until 1913, but he began to style himself as an "architect" in 1914, and he designed a number of commercial blocks and apartment buildings between 1914 and 1930. He died in Toronto on 24 May 1931, and his brief obituary published in the Toronto Star on 26 May 1931, p. 2 referred to him as "...an architect....and designer of many North Toronto houses". He should not be confused with his namesake Daniel H. Burnham, the famous Chicago architect who died in 1912, and to whom he appears to be unrelated.
