Kelley, Samuel Dudley

KELLEY, Samuel Dudley (1848-1938), of Boston, Mass. designed the Atlantic Hotel, Water Street, ST. JOHN'S, NFLD. in 1885, a landmark on the waterfront which burned to the ground in the Great Fire of 1892 (Evening Telegram [St. John's], 27 July 1885, descrip.). Born in Boston on 16 July 1848, he began his practice there in 1874 and designed the Savoy Hotel, Hoffman House Hotel, and many churches in that city. He spent his retirement in South Yarmouth, Mass. and died there on 9 May 1938 (obituary in the Boston Globe, 9 May 1938, 9; obit.
