Keighley, William Crossley

KEIGHLEY, William Crossley(1874-1952) was born in Morton, Yorkshire on 14 March 1874 and articled with the firm of Lawson, Roper & Procter in Lancaster, England in 1895-98. He then worked for Marshall Bros. of Morecambe in 1898-99 and became a partner in the firm of Cressey & Keighley, Architects in Morecambe, and active there from 1900 to 1910. He emigrated to Canada and was employed by the architectural department of the Grand Trunk Railway in Montreal from 1910-14, then moved to Pembroke, Ont. and opened his own office in late 1914. Keighley was active there until 1925 when he left Canada and relocated in Rochester, N.Y. where he became a partner in the firm of Ziegler & Keighley. Their relationship was terminated in 1927 and Keighley moved to Toronto to join the architectural department of the Canadian National Railway. During WWII, Keighley held the post of Superintendent of Building for the R.C.A.F. at Gander, Nfld. After returning to Toronto, he served as general manager of Carbo Engineering Co. Keighley died in Toronto on 8 December 1952 (obituary Globe & Mail [Toronto], 9 Dec. 1952, 29).
