Gay, Frank Arthur

GAY, Frank Arthur (1879 - c. 1931) was born in England and emigrated to Canada in 1900. He was active in Toronto where he designed the Mount Pleasant Road Baptist Church, Mount Pleasant Road at Belsize Drive, TORONTO, ONT., 1922 (Canadian Baptist [Toronto], 16 Nov. 1922, 4). His plans for this church were later adapted for Century United Church, Ninth Street, New Toronto, ETOBICOKE, ONT. (The Advertiser [New Toronto], 22 Jan. 1925; United Church Archives, The Century's Story 1894-1974, illus.). Both buildings were executed in a eclectic adaptation of the Craftsman style, with boldly expressed brick buttresses flanked by dual front entrances on either side of the principal facade. His name is absent from membership lists of the Ontario Association of Architects.
