Munro, Charles John Hewitt

MUNRO, Charles John Hewitt (1875-1924), a younger brother of William Lawrence Munro, was born in Caledonia, Ont. and likely trained in the office of his brother in Hamilton from 1895 onward. He moved to Chicago to work as a draftsman for Heuhl & Co. Architects, then returned to Hamilton to join his brother's new firm of Munro & Mead (1905 onward). In 1912 he accepted the invitation of another Hamilton architect to move to Saskatchewan and head up the branch office for W.W. La Chance at Yorkton, Sask. The activity of the Yorkton office appears to have been affected by the outbreak of WWI, and Munro returned to Hamilton to rejoin Munro & Mead. He died in Hamilton on 6 July 1924 (obit.
