MORAN, Stewart Blain (1883-1981), a native of Bay City, Michigan, was born there on 10 June 1883 and may have received his architectural training in Michigan. Both he and his partner Albert H. McPhail first appeared in Haileybury, Ont., in the mining district of Northern Ontario in 1909. In April 1910 they were joined by James Thomson, and they formed a new partnership of Moran, McPhail & Thomson, Architects. In 1912 they moved their office to Sault Ste. Marie, Ont. (Const., v, Sept. 1912, 72). No information on the firm has been found after 1913. McPhail later moved to Windsor, Ont. and opened his own office there in 1919. Moran moved back across the border after 1914 to take up residence in the twin city of Sault Ste. Marie, Mich., and continued his career there. He died in Newberry, Michigan on 17 May 1981 at the age of 98 years.
