Miller, Eden Carlyle

MILLER, Eden Carlyle (1889-1952) was born in Montreal in March 1889 and graduated from Montreal High School, but it appears he had no formal education in architecture. In 1906 at the age of 17 years, he joined the Montreal firm of Thomas Pringle & Son Ltd. and worked there as an apprentice, then as draftsman, and later as Inspector until he was appointed manager of the Toronto office for Pringle & Son in 1912. From his new position as staff architect for the company, he designed more than twenty industrial buildings in Toronto, Kitchener, Windsor and elsewhere including warehouses for Drummond, McColl Co., Hiram Walker & Sons, Gooderham & Worts Ltd., Canadian SKF Ltd., and Dominion Textile Co. Ltd. He joined the Ontario Assoc. of Architects in August 1931 and later moved to Montreal where he operated an office under his own name as an architect and industrial engineer. He became an acknowledged expert in industrial architecture, advising leading corporations of Canada, Great Britain, the United States, Sweden, and Switzerland. During this period he continued to serve as consultant to the Montreal office of T. Pringle & Son. Miller died in Montreal on 2 May 1952 (obit. Gazette [Montreal], 5 May 1952, 29; inf. Ontario Assoc. of Architects)
