Mills, Andrew Kaye

MILLS, Andrew Kaye (1901-1973), active in Ottawa, Ont. and a partner with A.J. Hazelgrove from 1935 to 1940 (see works under Hazelgrove & Mills). Born in Ottawa on 21 June 1901 he graduated from the School of Architecture at McGill University in 1926 and trained under J. Albert Ewart, a leading architect in Ottawa, from 1926 to 1928, then worked briefly for P. Roy Wilson in Montreal, and returned to Ottawa to serve as assistant to Cecil Burgess (in 1929-32). Mills worked under his own name (1932-35), and in late 1935 was invited to form a partnership by A.J. Hazelgrove. After the dissolution of their firm in 1940 Mills continued to work under his own name until his retirement in 1968. He died in Ottawa on 15 November 1973 (obituary Ottawa Citizen, 16 Nov. 1973, 36; inf. Ontario Assoc. of Architects).
